About the artwork:
In Aksara’s practice she explores the depths of imaginative worlds that continue to question concepts of home, displacement and belonging. The work Floating suburb is a world of its own. Presented to us is a sense of mystic and wonderment. This piece is derived from pure imagination, channelled by your own perception of the fantastical. In her series, Surreal Estate, these mobile landscapes are a slice of a world beyond the norm. To partake in the experience of the piece the observer circles the suspended sculpture in contemplation, viewing the colour and vibrancy of a world unlike our own. The gentle rotation of the sculpture shifts as air flows within a space ever so gently. It makes this piece almost animated to a point of seeing this as potential ‘SUR-real’ estate. Even with the current social and environmental climate we find ourselves in we aim to create a state of nirvana wherever we live but this is measured according to circumstances beyond our control.
