Having survived breast cancer and the horrors of cancer therapy along with the side effects I needed a positive affirmation of womanhood. My art practice focus turned to the vagina or yoni/orgasm…so hidden from the world yet so powerful. I wanted to investigate the beauty, the fragility, the strength of women’s sex. Using a combination of found objects, fabrics, recycled jewellery, inks and paint, each piece chosen for its representation of the parts of the vagina, labia minora and labia majora and the clitoris, the jewel in the crown, the secret button of a million sensitivities, the pleasure starter/ seeker. I wanted to celebrate the beauty and diversity of womanhood using materials that were thrown away. Materials that could be transformed into sublime beautiful representations of the eternal, powerful place between woman’s legs.
