About the artwork:
“Broflakes" is a commentary on the pervasive toxic masculinity embedded in contemporary online discourse, particularly emanating from various subcultures of misogynistic men. This ceramic sculpture is coil formed from BRT clay and elevated on a foundation of reclaimed bricks.
Prompted by the disturbing reactions of certain groups of men to films centred on women's experiences, notably the Barbie movie, this work confronts the aggressive defence of privilege perpetuated by INCELS and MRA advocates. Their vehement resistance to acknowledging systemic gender inequality contributes to a culture fostering gendered violence and rape.
As a feminist intimately acquainted with the harsh realities of gendered discrimination and violence, I am compelled to channel these experiences into art. "Broflakes" invites viewers to reflect on the vital role of feminism in dismantling destructive ideologies, fostering a world where toxic masculinity declines and women can share their experiences safely.
