About the artwork:
Jaymie Maley’s work draws on the personal iconography of familiar landscapes to explore human and social interconnectedness.
This work, ‘Holding Space’, is made of paper pulp dyed with the bark of the Angophora Costata trees of her family home. Using the body to draw with wire into sculpture, the form is developed and constructed with the ‘twisted habit’ of the trees held in mind.
‘Holding Space’ is an enterable and touchable suspended form. It represents a space held for loved ones. In the artist's personal story it expresses the space and suspension held as children get older. ‘Holding Space’ reflects the way we hold a safe space for loved ones as they move in and out of our lives.
