Maitland boxing legend Les Darcy has been honored in many ways. He lives on in Jack Hibberd’s play “The Les Darcy Show” which is written in the old Theatre hall style not often explored or performed these days. The play combines naturalistic elements, songs, dances and lots of local history.
Director Cheryl Sovechles put on “The Les Darcy Show” at Newcastle Theatre Company in mid-2022 featuring local actor Jarrod Sansom in the title role. Cheryl invited me to photograph the rehearsals and create images for program and promotion. The fantastic production which was crafted with meticulous attention to details and featured a wonderful cast offered many opportunities for photographs. The selected image shows Jarrod (left) in a boxing match with fellow actor (and real life boxer) Adam Soldo. Paul Sansom played the umpire.
