About the artwork:
“It started with panic” explores the theme of religious trauma, coercive control and the boundaries and limitations they bring. The base a ridged structure, strewn with nails that are representative of beliefs that have been pushed, and behaviours that must be adhered too, sacrifice, suffering, an ordeal or perhaps an acceptance of fate.
The body of the work in contrast is organic in form with soft details with individual pieces created then sewn together. The rebuilding of oneself. One thought at a time, one learned behaviour at a time. It’s playful colours a celebration of release and rebirth. The wired fabric arms connecting into itself creating new pathways of thought and experience.
