About the artwork:
"I never met you but I love you" confronts the societal silence surrounding pregnancy loss. Drawing parallels to historical injustices like witch hunts, murder trials, and public judgement, it questions why we don’t share our experiences and stories around miscarriage and asks how we transform that fear into conversation.
Inspired by the Japanese ceremony Mizuko kuyō, where red-clad statues symbolize the souls of unborn children, this collection encourages individuals to create their own rituals providing a space for personal expression and acknowledgment of loss. This act challenges the taboo of miscarriage and fosters a culture of shared experiences and openness. Utilizing digitally manipulated ultrasounds printed on muslin cloth, and raw threads, the artworks evoke both the tenderness associated with babies and the profound emotional journey of grief. The cyanotype process symbolizes the eternal blueprint of the soul, serving as a poignant metaphor for the grieving process.
